You’ve heard the phrase, “The more, the merrier!” It usually has to do with inviting additional friends to a get together. The more people there are, the more fun it will be! Interestingly, that idea works when you apply it to how often you write blog post, “The more, the better.”
More is Better for Your Blog
Online marketing is still relatively new and, as a result, still confusing to many people. As a result, some are unsure as to how often they should post a new blog. I’ve heard some people ask me if once a quarter is OK? Others have asked if they needed to post everyday?
The answer is “the more, the better,” but make sure it works for you. Set a realistic frequency for posts that you and those in your business can handle. Unless you are a professional blogger, you really don’t need to write everyday. That can quickly become an overwhelming burden, especially when you have other job tasks to perform.
For most companies, I suggest trying to write once per week. Using that frequency, or something close to it, has some definite advantages.
The Benefits of Frequency
- Building Awareness – Posting on a regular basis gives you a better opportunity to have your blogs seen by others. It is a tactic designed to build awareness for your business. Your goal should be to get people to recognize your company as the source of your content. When that happens, you’re building awareness. Infrequent posts can’t achieve this because people tend to forget. Only frequent and consistent blogs can help get this done.
- Search Engine Optimization (SEO) – Google wants websites to provide helpful and new information to those who use its search engine. Therefore, it rewards sites that have regularly updated content with better search rankings. Blogging often can, over time, positively impact those rankings and help your site get found. That’s assuming your website has been search optimized, as well.
- Demonstrate Your Expertise – A 2012 survey by SearchEngineLand.com found that 85% of U.S. consumers use the internet to find the products and services they need. The internet has become a research tool. Consumes not only want to learn if your product or service is a good fit for their needs, they also want to know if your business knows its stuff. Are you the best at what you do? Are you experts?Blogging gives you the opportunity to prove that you are by sharing your story and demonstrating your expertise. Frequent posts show that you have a lot of content to share, which in turn speaks to the wealth of experience your business possesses.
Blogging has clear benefits to your business. How quickly and to what degree you see those benefits depends on the frequency and consistency of your posts.
